Syllabus – Principles of Interpretation 1

PURPOSE:
To gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the Bible being the product of Divine inspiration, and not human interpretation (2 Peter 2:20-21)
To gain a greater understanding in the application of Scripture (Luke 10:37; Acts 2:41)
To strengthen our faith and reasoning to rightly divide the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15)
To become a workman approved of God (2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Peter 4:11)
TEXTBOOKS:
The King James Version Bible (Preferred) or The American Standard Version (1901)
How To Study The Bible: A Practical Guide To Biblical Hermeneutics by Kevin W. Rhodes
Principles of Interpretation by Clinton Lockhart (Recommended)
How To Study The Bible by Earle H. West (Recommended)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Complete reading assignments before class
Participate in class discussions
TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:
Two (2) tests (Midterm and Final Exam)
Two to Three page chapter outlines
One page memory work with exegesis
GRADING:
Class attendance and participation (20%)
Memory work with exegesis (10%)
Chapter outlines (10%)
Midterm (30%)
Final (30%)
COURSE SCHEDULE:
Classes meet each Saturday for 18 weeks beginning the first Saturday in August through the third Saturday in December with the exception of two breaks. Each class will consist of one fifty (50) minute session meeting at 11:00 AM-11:50 AM CTZ.
